Semi-Precious is defined as a piece of attractive mineral, which when cut and polished is used to make jewelry and now exotic slab counters. They are usually made up of natural stone including amethyst, aventurine, carnelian, garnet, opal, rose quartz, and many others. The slabs are a mosaic material that is put together by custom craftsmen in Italy. Semi-Precious on the Mohls Scale will range depending on the actually main mineral or stone used to compose the actual slab.
Semi-precious slabs are often used as art pieces rather than countertops. However, if used for countertop surfaces, they are typically found in bathroom or wet bar applications. This material is extremely rare and no two pieces are identical.
